The Person Behind WAVE
“I don’t want to be the person who simply teaches you how to surf. I want to be the person who helps you fall in love with the ocean and the nature that surrounds us”
There are many places in Costa Rica where you can learn to surf.
WAVE is different because it was never created simply to teach people how to stand on a surfboard.
I created WAVE because I believe the ocean can give us something far more valuable.
It can teach us how to slow down.
How to pay attention.
How to overcome fear.
How to find balance.
How to respect nature.
How to heal from injuries and the stress of life.
And, perhaps most importantly, how to reconnect with ourselves and with one another.
My name is Alejandro, and I personally believe that the quality of an experience begins with the quality of the person creating it.
That is why WAVE is deeply personal to me.
I Don’t Want to Give You a Surf Lesson.
I Want to Give You an Experience You Remember.
When you enter the water with me, I am not thinking about getting you through a lesson as quickly as possible.
I am thinking about you.
Your experience.
Your comfort.
Your confidence.
Your relationship with the ocean.
Some people arrive excited. Some arrive nervous. Some have never touched a surfboard before.
There is no single formula.
I take the time to understand the person in front of me and adapt the experience accordingly.
Because luxury, in my eyes, isn’t about having more.
Luxury is having someone genuinely pay attention.
My Relationship With the Ocean
The ocean demands respect.
You cannot negotiate with a wave.
You cannot force the perfect moment.
You have to observe, understand, wait, feel, and then move.
That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life.
Surfing taught me that sometimes the greatest skill is not fighting the ocean—it is learning to move with it.
That philosophy became the foundation of WAVE.
We teach technique, of course.
But we also teach awareness.
We teach ocean knowledge.
We teach respect.
We teach patience.
And we teach people to recognize that the ocean is not something to conquer.
It is something to experience.
Costa Rica Is Not Just Our Location.
It Is Part of Who We Are.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be Costa Rican.
Here, the ocean meets the rainforest. Mountains rise behind the coastline. Wildlife moves freely. Waterfalls disappear into the jungle. And life still has a rhythm that many of us have forgotten.
I want our guests to experience that.
Not from behind a tour-bus window.
Not by rushing from one attraction to another.
But by actually being present.
A morning in the ocean.
Fresh food.
A walk through the rainforest.
A waterfall.
A conversation that lasts longer than expected.
A sunset.
A good laugh.
A quiet moment.
These seemingly simple things can become the memories we carry for the rest of our lives.
Hospitality, To Me, Is Personal.
I don’t believe true hospitality is about simply providing a service.
It is about how you make someone feel.
I want our guests to feel welcomed without feeling managed.
Cared for without feeling restricted.
Guided without feeling rushed.
And comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
You shouldn’t have to perform for your vacation.
Come as you are.
We will take care of the rest.
Why WAVE?
You can find surf schools all over Costa Rica.
You can find instructors who can teach you how to paddle, stand, turn, and catch a wave.
But WAVE was created around something much deeper.
Connection.
Connection with the ocean.
Connection with nature.
Connection with food.
Connection with people.
And ultimately, connection with yourself.
I want people to leave WAVE with more than photographs and a few successful waves.
I want them to leave with a feeling.
A memory.
A new appreciation for the ocean.
And perhaps a small reminder that life can be lived a little differently.
A little slower.
A little more intentionally.
A little more connected.
